Born in Franklin County, Georgia, on January 25, 1803, Franklin Hardin died at Liberty, Texas, on April 20, 1878. He was an officer at the Siege of Bexar and at San Jacinto, was appointed by Congress in 1837 as Surveyor of Liberty County, served in 1841 as Colonel of the 2nd Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the Republic of Texas, and in 1867 was a member of the 7th State Legislature.
