Rhea's Mill stood six miles northwest of this spot, and its chimney now stands here. The mill was operated by the Federal army before and after the Battle of Prairie Grove, and during the battle General Blunt's supply train was at Rhea's under guard of General Frederick Salomon's troops. The tower is fifty-five feet high, weighs two hundred thousand pounds, is eight feet square at the base, tapers to four by four feet at the top, and contains seven hundred stones. The chimney was taken down at Rhea's and reerected here as a memorial to the men who fought on this field on December 7, 1862. It was given to Battlefield Park in 1957 by Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Mennecke.
