Sluice Boxes State Park occupies the northernmost eight miles of Belt Creek canyon in the Little Belt Mountains of central Montana, about twelve miles south of Belt on the Kings Hill Scenic Byway. Defined by a narrow canyon of steep walls, large cliffs, and rock ledges, it follows Belt Creek as the stream winds out of the mountains toward the plains. The area is valued for both its rugged scenery and visible remains of earlier mining and railroading activity in the canyon. Now devoted to recreation rather than industry, the park supports fishing, hiking, floating, picnicking, and backcountry camping.
