Peter Hill served on the Rocklin City Council for almost 30 years as the city grew from 7,000 to 58,000. He was mayor six times and was the longest serving council member in city history. He strongly advocated comprehensive long-term planning to guide Rocklin's growth. Concerned about the older part of town, he led the effort to install sidewalks in the older residential neighborhoods. He also supported city involvement in preserving the downtown heritage area, creating the history museum, building the train station, and restoring Finn Hall, historic City Hall, and St. Mary's Church.
