Camp Gordon Johnston Museum
Military
Camp Gordon Johnston in the Carrabelle area of Franklin County, Florida, trained about a quarter of a million soldiers for amphibious operations during World War II. Across from Carrabelle Beach, where troops once practiced landings, the museum preserves that history through vehicles, photographs, and thousands of artifacts such as uniforms, mess kits, and soldiers’ souvenirs. Owned by the nonprofit Camp Gordon Johnston Association, it links the wartime training center directly to the landscape where the exercises took place. Before moving to its present site, the collection was housed in the Carrabelle Municipal Complex, a building that had previously served as the Carrabelle School.
