Janes Island State Park is a Maryland coastal park on the Chesapeake Bay beside Crisfield on the lower Eastern Shore, distinguished by broad salt marshes and an experience centered on travel by water. Created in 1963, it was expanded and improved with state funding from 1965 to 1978 for land acquisition, erosion control, and visitor facilities. Its most notable feature is about 30 miles of marked water trails through the marshes to remote beaches, including canoe routes to a seven-mile white sandy shoreline along Tangier Sound and the bay. The park also offers camping, cabins, boating, fishing, crabbing, and other recreational amenities.
