The Great Eastern Sugar Company gave this engine to the City of Sterling in recognition of the sugar industry’s contribution to the growth and prosperity of the area. For many years, the engine hauled sugar beets within the factory compound. It was dedicated to local heritage on September 19, 1981, during the mayoralty of Earl D. Franklin, Jr., with council members Edith M. Evans, Marcia R. Luck, Leory R.. Reitz, Harold E. Sperber, Carl R. Waltz, and William B. Williams.
