Indian Mounds
History
18
Eight hundred years ago, this site was a thriving Indian village where the people farmed, fished, and worshipped their ancestors. Three temple mounds were decorated with carved and painted pillars, colorful mats, and sculptured figures. Burials, pottery, weapons, and tools from this culture were excavated in 1934 and are now at the McClung Museum, at the U.T. campus at Knoxville, open to the public.
