A Civilian Conservation Corps camp with 220 young men opened here on July 18, 1935. The Corps planted thousands of trees, built terraces and spillways, planted grasses and fought fires. The camp had 14 buildings. In 1942 it closed as the men entered World War II. Most of the buildings were moved to Stillwater for military housing.
