Wild Turkey Strand Preserve is a 3,137-acre protected area in Lee County, Florida, south of Lehigh Acres. It preserves a diverse mix of flatwoods, cypress strand and dome swamps, freshwater marshes, wet prairies, and former agricultural pasture. Part of the property once belonged to Buckingham Army Airfield, a World War II training base, linking the landscape’s natural significance with a military past. The land was acquired during the first decade of the 21st century, and today a 1.8-mile trail with boardwalks and interpretive signs allows visitors to experience some of its wetland habitats.
