Built in 1910 by German immigrant Anton Becker, who owned the hotel next door, this one-story building became an enduring center of recreation for Hardin soon after the town was founded. Hardin’s earliest map shows it as a dance hall, and by 1911 the brick structure housed the Pioneer Pool Parlor. Barber Matt Larkin shared the space from 1912 to 1918. In 1918, owner James Reid added a forty-foot rear addition and installed a double bowling alley. In the 1920s, as golf grew more popular, the owners created a nine-hole indoor golf course with a sand green. In later years, the building served as a meat market, grocery store, and the Pastime Café. Although the plate glass storefront, glass block transom, and aluminum awnings were added later, the top of the building still reflects Hardin’s boom years.
