At this site in 1933, Louis Baer, an immigrant from France, joined the Babineaux brothers, Lionel, Desire, and Pete, to form the Louisiana Frog Company, acclaimed as "The Largest Shippers of Frogs in the World." Over 40 years, the company fostered Rayne's unique sobriquet as Frog Capital and was visited by thousands, including Dwight D. Eisenhower and Bette Davis. Through the efforts of then Congressman Edwin Edwards, N.A.S.A. orbited two Rayne frogs in 1970 in an experiment to solve spatial imbalance problems for U.S. astronauts.
