The Village of Painted Post and its citizens undertook a courageous and determined recovery after Tropical Storm Agnes brought destructive flood waters on June 23, 1972. On behalf of the village, the New York State Urban Development Corporation carried out the Comeback '72 Urban Renewal Project with funds from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State of New York, helping the village recover from the devastation. The citizens also dedicated this effort to the many people and organizations, from near and far, who unselfishly assisted the village in its hour of greatest need.
