English Mountain rises 3,629 feet in the northeastern foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee and is valued as an accessible scenic high point from Knoxville, with broad views and notable fall color. Roads including Alpine Drive and Carson Springs Road reach communities, resort cabins, the summit area, and the historic English Mountain Fire Lookout Tower, while also providing the only complete pass over the mountain to Jones Cove and Camp Hollow. Forbidden Caverns opens on its northwestern face. The mountain is also an important water source: English Mountain Spring produces more than 2 million gallons daily and, since 1997, has supplied commercially distributed spring water. A 2016 wildfire burned several hundred forested acres.
