The 20th Armored Division served in the European Theater during World War II in the Danube, Dachau, and Munich campaigns, contributing to the liberation of Dachau concentration camp and Munich. Its forces included division headquarters, Combat Command A, Combat Command B, Reserve Command, division trains, division artillery, the 220th Armored Medical Battalion, the 138th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion, the 160th Armored Signal Company, the 220th Armored Engineer Battalion, the division band, a military police platoon, the 33rd Cavalry Reconnaissance unit, the 9th, 20th, and 27th Tank Battalions, the 8th, 65th, and 70th Armored Infantry Battalions, and the 412th, 413th, and 414th Armored Field Artillery Battalions. It also honors those from the division who gave their lives for freedom's sake during these operations in 1945.
