With special permission from the government and tourist association of Oberndorf, Austria, near Salzburg, a replica of Oberndorf's original Silent Night Memorial Chapel was erected in Frankenmuth, Michigan, in 1992 as a tribute to the Christmas hymn Stille Nacht (Silent Night), which was first sung in Oberndorf in 1818. It was given in thankfulness to God by Wally and Irene Bronner and family, and the chapel is a memorial not intended for services or ceremonies.
