In 1907, young Vera Westbrook died in Post City and was buried near Two Draw Road. In 1908, after the death of Vertie Rogers Conn, the board of directors of the Double U Co. informed town founder C. W. Post in Battle Creek, Michigan, of the need for a cemetery. Post replied that although he wished there were no need for such a place, affairs had to be conducted according to a power much superior to human intelligence. He provided land for the cemetery and instructions for its layout. Conn became the first burial there on Oct. 13, 1908, and Westbrook was later reinterred there as well. The original 19.35-acre cemetery, platted in 1912, later expanded to include several thousand burials and stands as a testament to generations of families.
