More than two decades before American Falls Dam was built, a series of plants at American Falls generated water power. Beginning with an island plant serving Pocatello in 1902, the site was developed soon after long transmission lines became available. As new types of turbines and generators were invented, they were installed there, and rare examples of this older technology are still preserved in these landmark plants.
