Locomotive No. 3424 was donated to the City of Kinsley on June 7, 1956 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company. It was purchased in September 1921 from Baldwin Locomotive Works at Eddystone, PA, at a cost of $61,927.08, and was used in passenger service on the Chicago Terminal, Illinois, and Missouri Divisions. It was converted from coal to oil fueling in September 1941 and retired from service in July 1953 after a total operating mileage of 2,071,610. The engine and tender weighed 399,266 pounds and measured 95 feet 8⅛ inches from coupler to coupler. Its tender had a capacity of 7,000 gallons of oil and 20,000 gallons of water. Other specifications included 79-inch wheels, 25-inch cylinders, a 28-inch piston stroke, a tractive force of 41,400 pounds, a 78-inch boiler diameter, a firebox measuring 114 by 84¼ inches, and boiler pressure of 220 per square inch.
