Baltic Peak
Nature
Baltic Peak rises in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California near Grizzly Flats, reaching 5,046 feet and accessible by a dirt path off the Mormon Emigrant Trail near Jenkinson Lake. The mountain preserves evidence of two strands of local history. A gold mine on its north face was established in 1896 and had closed by 1907, reflecting an earlier mining era. Later, a steel fire lookout tower was built on the summit in 1931. Though the abandoned Baltic Peak Lookout is no longer in use, it remains the feature most closely identified with the mountain.
