A memorial commissioned by the Village of Elk Grove, Illinois honors four soldiers killed in the Afghan-Iraq war with an emphasis on family and honor. It includes children and omits weapons, and its soldier wears non-descript fatigues that could represent any man or woman serving in the five branches of the armed forces. Its creator called it one of the hardest pieces emotionally he had ever done.
