Fairview Peak is an 8,271-foot summit in Nevada’s Clan Alpine Mountains overlooking the site of the former mining town of Fairview, which was named for the mountain. The peak itself was named for its scenic views and has also been called Fairview Cairn and Fairview Mountain. Its most notable place in Nevada history is tied to the Dixie Valley–Fairview earthquake sequence of December 16, 1954, when two major earthquakes struck four minutes apart. Measuring magnitudes 7.3 and 6.9 and reaching Mercalli intensity X, the shocks caused limited building damage in the sparsely populated region but left prominent fault scarps on the landscape.
