Sharkstooth Peak is a prominent 12,468-foot summit in the La Plata Mountains of southwestern Colorado, on San Juan National Forest land northwest of Durango. Its steep relief makes it especially striking, with the summit rising about 2,300 feet above Bear Creek in just one mile. Nearby stand Centennial Peak, Lavender Peak, and Hesperus Mountain in the same rugged cluster. Runoff from the mountain drains west to the Mancos River and from its other slopes into Bear Creek, a tributary of the Dolores River. With an alpine climate of snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and year-round precipitation, it is one of the notable high summits of the range.
