Crockett County Jail was built in 1892, about a year after the county's organization, by contractor Z.D. Gafford of San Angelo. Stone for the building was quarried north of the structure on Meyers property. Its tower may have been designed for hangings, but no gallows were ever installed. Though the jail was never filled to capacity, its inmates included the robbers of the Ozona National Bank in 1954. In the sheriff's quarters, Ozona children took piano lessons from the sheriff's wife about 1915.
