Moulton was founded about 2 miles northwest in the early 1850s and moved to this site after 1887, when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad extended its line from Yoakum to Waco and placed a station here. In 1901, brothers Sam and Will Moore took the lead in building an outstanding school here. The town remains an agricultural and shipping center.
