Constructed by Gustus Remick after the fire of 1890, the Remick Building remained in his ownership until 1968. In earlier times, its top floor hosted many promenades, meetings, and walking marathons. It is believed to have been saved in the fire of 1903 because of its asbestos roof shingles. Ernest and Kim D'Anjou bought the building in the 1970's and divided the ground floor into two businesses, with Mr. Danjou operating a barber shop on the south side and Mrs. D'Anjou running a sporting goods store on the north side. Over the years it housed Public Service in 1934, Hughes radio shop, Underhill's ladies dress shop, Adams consignment shop, the law office of Waystack and King, High Country Satellite, Pauline's Boutique, Tilly's Balloon Shop, Lakin's Collectibles, and Collins Insurance Agency. In 2010, Kevin Ducharme purchased the building and rented the premises to various businesses until the mid-teens, after which it has stood empty. A local story says the building extends farther onto the sidewalk than others because Gustus Remick wanted to see the goings on down the rest of the street.
