Laughery Creek Bridge spans the border of Dearborn and Ohio counties in southeastern Indiana and is notable as the only known surviving triple Whipple truss bridge. Built in 1868 by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company, the nearly 300-foot, single-span through truss is an unusually rare variation on the more common Whipple design, with members crossing at three intersections. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, it later deteriorated after closing in the 1970s and was named to Indiana’s 10 Most Endangered list in 1993. Restored in 2009, it now remains preserved for pedestrian use as both a landmark and a remarkable example of 19th-century bridge engineering.
