From the 1870s, a nearby oak grove served as a family cemetery for two Prussian families who immigrated to Texas in the 1850s, sailing to Indianola and settling near Hochheim Prairie. Carl Ottomar Gunther Theodor von Hugo (1805-1875), the original owner of the property, has the oldest marked grave there; he was born in Prussia and married Albertine Amalie Elise Elenore, Countess zu Dohna (1813-1890), also a Prussian native. Gustav Adolph Frederick von Clausewitz (1802-1874), who owned the land next to the cemetery, was born at Berg, Prussia, and held an immigration passport dated 1858; he married Elise Elenore Wilhelmine, Countess zu Dohna (1817-1870), Albertine von Hugo's sister. Although both von Clausewitz graves are now unmarked, they are recorded in the family cemetery. The cemetery has some 14 known graves, and possibly others from before the turn of the century, with records also showing the family names Barth, Bulwer, Nelson, Petering, and Stablefeld. Burials evidently ceased after nearby St. Ann's Church was completed in 1906 and a church cemetery was established there.
