The memorial is dedicated to comrades who entered the service of their country, including those who were wounded and those who gave up their lives in the World War of 1917-1918, and was sponsored by Moore-Armstrong Post No. 138, American Legion; Willie C. Lewis Post No. 156, American Legion; and the Carter County Fiscal Court.
