A memorial to North Carolina militia honored forces stationed at Deepwater Point, about one mile northeast of Southport on the waterfront, including several companies of Major John A. Lillington's detachment from July to December 1812, the Brunswick Regiment (Moore's) from July to August 1813, and several companies of Major John A. Cameron's command from September 1813 to January 1814.
