Smith Observatory was an astronomical observatory at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, completed in 1882 with funding from Janette S. Herrick and named for her brother, John F. Smith. It served the college from 1882 into the 1950s and housed a 9.5-inch Alvan Clark & Sons refracting telescope with a clock drive. Among those who directed it were Professor Smith and Clement Rood. After its scientific role ended, the building was converted into a coffee house in 1967 and demolished in 1969. Beloit College later replaced it with the Thompson Observatory.
