Until the 1960s, this Main Street lot was vacant, with grass growing there and local people remembering it as an open space where they sat with a family dog or played catch. In the early 1960s, Virgil Johnson developed the lot and constructed the building as a barber shop, then moved his business there from across the street and operated it for a couple of years before his death. In 1978, State Farm Insurance began serving clients there under Larry Miller, whose office kept a small-town charm while offering insurance services. In the mid-1980s, a fire next door threatened the building, causing minor smoke and water damage but avoiding major structural harm. As the business expanded, Miller added to the rear of the building to make more room for staff. After serving for more than 25 years, he retired and sold the business to another agent. David Burd later moved State Farm Insurance about a block down Main Street, and in 2018 Grey Duck Screen Printing began operating there, offering locally printed and designed custom clothing by Kindra Liebhard and her family.
