White Oak Lake State Park is built around White Oak Lake, a 1,656-acre reservoir in southwestern Arkansas near Bluff City, completed in 1961 as the second largest lake created by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Formed in woodland, the reservoir still contains many submerged dead trees that shelter fish, helping make it known for bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. In its quiet setting of tall pines, the park offers camping, playgrounds, boat and bicycle rentals, and hiking and mountain biking trails through West Gulf Coastal Plain forest. Deer, herons, and wintering bald eagles add to its appeal.
