Delesseps S. "Chep" Morrisson was born on January 18, 1912, in New Roads, Pointe Coupee Parish, graduated from Louisiana State University Law School in 1934, enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1943, and on February 1, 1945, Lieutenant Colonel Morrison was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Legion of Merit for meritorious services as support commander in connection with mounting operations in preparation for the Allied invasion against the enemy in the European theater of operations from March 17 to June 6, 1944, with the success of the Allied invasion of the far shore attributed in measure to the superior performance of his duties; on March 1, 1963, he was elevated to a two-star Major General in the Army Reserve, served as four-term mayor of New Orleans from 1946 to 1961, served as ambassador to the Organization of American States from 1961 to 1963, and died in a plane crash in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, on May 22, 1964.
