William Evans Baker and Celestia Cole Baker were the first settlers of Roy in 1873. They made their first home on 6000 S. and west of 2700 W. In 1874, Mr. Baker dug a well by hand, 50 feet deep, using a shovel. He lined the hole with 40-gallon barrels to keep the sand from caving in. This became the first source of water in the area.
