Constructed in 1935 at a cost of $30,000 as a WPA project, Ontario Baseball Park became the spring training home of the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League from 1937 until 1942. Its first game was played on March 14, 1937, between the Angels and the Ontario Merchants before a crowd of approximately 3,000, with the Angels winning 8 to 6. The ball park also served local youth baseball organizations and was later renamed in recognition of Jay Littleton's contributions to Ontario youth baseball. Joe P. Littleton, known as "The Jay Bird," lived from November 22, 1923, to July 5, 2003, and the ballpark honors a man who dedicated his life to baseball and the youth of Ontario.
