Union rifled artillery breached the southeast angle of Fort Pulaski with devastating accuracy in less than 30 hours. Federal troops took six weeks to repair the battle damage. For the remainder of the war, Fort Pulaski served as a Union outpost in the Deep South. The divot in the wall is damage from the battle.
