Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area protects a stretch of the Gila River in southeastern Arizona, about 20 miles northeast of Safford. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it encompasses roughly 23,000 acres in southern Graham and Greenlee counties. Known for its riparian landscape within the Gila Box, the area offers campgrounds and hiking trails that provide access to the river corridor. It is also a popular place for white-water rafting and kayaking, giving it importance both as a preserved natural environment and as a destination for outdoor river recreation.
