Originally located at the mouth of Ard and Bottle Creek three miles northwest of the current site, Brooklyn is one of the oldest communities in Conecuh County. Edwin Robinson founded it in 1820 and named it for his hometown in Connecticut. A U.S. Post Office opened in 1827, and Brooklyn became a thriving trading center through cotton farming and the ability to ship products on the Sepulga River to Pensacola, FL. Farming and later timber harvesting kept Brooklyn prosperous for the next 100 years.
