Shore Haven is a Sears kit home purchased in 1924 by Ross and Daisy Mayer. Ross's brother Martin and his family bought a smaller Sears home, Morning Glories, and the brothers built the houses on San Carlos Bay near Bailey's General Store. The homes shared an artesian well, a generator, and the Caretakers' Cottage, which now houses the Black History on Sanibel exhibit. Although Shore Haven's interior has been modernized over time, its exterior has been restored to its original 1924 appearance, except for the sun porch, which is a modern addition. The building was moved to the Historical Village in 2012 and today serves as the Welcome Center.
