On the battlefield of Richmond, a memorial honors the Union and Confederate soldiers who fell on August 29 and 30, 1862. After nearly six years of burial in the Richmond cemetery, the 241 Union dead were removed to Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, Kentucky. The smaller number of Southern dead remain in the Richmond Cemetery. "Love and tears for the Blue; tears and love for the Gray."
