This property is the site of a Civil War cavalry battle that took place on October 19, 1863, and it is protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement held by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, acquired with the assistance of a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, administered by the National Park Services American Battlefield Protection Program.
