The memorial is dedicated to the men and women of Shelby who helped preserve freedom for future generations, honoring all American veterans from Shelby who shared the goal of protecting the country's freedoms and remembering their service and suffering across World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, including Victor I. Rick, Glenn Dietz, Jack C. Connor, Douglas Thompson, Benjamin Reiss, Stanley Miller, Gordon R. Donnely, Robert R. Wolf, James Henry Sim, Chester Skutnik, Benjamin C. DeForest, John R. DeForest, Vern A. Morgan, Richard C. Zawlocki, Frank Muscynski, Peter J. Schutz, Wilfried Burck, Donald E. Honeycutt, and Donald R. Fielder II.
