Fort Totten Park served as a military fort for about a century before becoming a public green space in 2005. More than 100 structures from its military period still stand in the park and have been designated as historic landmarks. The park includes notable sites such as the Welcome Gates, the Parade Ground, Battery King, the Visitors' Center, and buildings along Totten Avenue, Story Avenue, Murray Avenue, Pratt Avenue, Shore Road, Weaver Avenue, and Lee Road.
