Built in 1914 to keep pace with the ever-increasing number of people needing lodging, the Sunflower Hotel replaced the old Lodging House's limited capacity with a modern hotel of 70 rooms built at a cost of $6,887.70, roughly equivalent to $160,000 today. Between 1922 and 1924, it expanded by 40 more rooms, gained more modern plumbing, and incorporated a section of the former Lodging House moved to the north side of the hotel. Always fully booked during high season, it served many generations of Spiritualists visiting Camp Chesterfield as a home away from home. Though not in active use today, the Friends of Camp Chesterfield Foundation is raising funds to restore the Sunflower and return it to its original glory.
