Historic Huntley stands on a hilltop where cool breezes and expansive views have long drawn residents and visitors. From the top, the view includes Maryland, Fort Belvoir, and Huntley Meadows Park, while in earlier years the mostly treeless landscape also opened views of the Potomac River, Mount Vernon, and Woodlawn Plantation. The house may be explored freely, with unfurnished rooms that reveal elegant architectural details, and two special rooms expose the home’s original rafters, bricks, and plaster. Built about 1825 as a retreat for the Mason family, the home has endured within an ever-changing landscape, though many mysteries about it remain. The Friends of Historic Huntley played a key role in preserving the site and continue to support it.
