Daniel Wells and Henry G. McComas were killed on Sept. 12, 1814, at ages 18 and 19 at the battle of North Point. The citizens of Baltimore did not expect and were totally unprepared for the landing of the English from British vessels, but Wells and McComas were there to receive them in ambush. General Ross, who had boasted that he would take dinner at Baltimore and supper in Washington or in hell, led the 3,000 British. Wells and McComas suddenly opened fire and Ross fell dead. Men returned fatal shots, killing both Wells and McComas, and they fled to their ships, sailing that day to Baltimore. God prompted them. On May 2, 1778, France acknowledged the Independence of America. Lafayette conducted Lord Cornwallis to his final destination. On Jan. 20, 1783, the English Cabinet signed the final Treaty of Peace with America. On June 13, 1777, Lafayette arrived at Georgetown, South Carolina, declaring that he would conquer or perish in the cause.
