The Twillman House, described in 1911 as "one of the most imposing and beautiful country homes in this section," was built of handmade brick in 1870 by German immigrant Johann Heinrich Twillman (1827-1882) on 370 acres of farmland. A one-story wing was added after 1945, when the family sold the house and it became a well-known restaurant. The Spanish Lake Community Association acquired the house in 2005, and it is now the Spanish Lake Community Center.
