Incorporated in 1831, the Cumberland Valley Railroad was completed from Lemoyne to Chambersburg in 1837 and eventually extended from Harrisburg to Virginia. For over 80 years it was vital to the Valley's economic life, and it merged into the Pennsylvania R.R. in 1919. The Passenger Station and Stationmaster's House here were built in the 1860s.
