Waterplace Park
Providence, Rhode Island
History
3
Waterplace Park stands at the site of the former Cove Basin, which was paved over in the early 1890s to accommodate railroad tracks cutting through the heart of downtown. Returning the riverfront to the city, it serves as a natural amphitheater and a focus of riverfront revitalization, embodying Providence's history, present resplendence, future promise, and resurgence achieved with respect for natural resources.
